Manufacturing Designer / Detailer

Brite Rigid Frame Buildings is a general contractor specializing in design-build and pre-engineered steel buildings and is seeking a motivated, experienced Designer/Detailer to join our dedicated team focusing on structural design and detailing, as well as the design and detailing of miscellaneous steel projects, stationed out of our Grande Prairie, Alberta office.

This is an exciting, in-house, full-time position that includes a variety of challenges and continuous improvement and learning. The successful candidate will work with Project Managers, Estimators, Engineers and other CAN team members to detail structural and miscellaneous steel projects using various 3D drawing & FEA programs accurately and efficiently while strictly adhering to the client’s requirements and company standards & procedures.

Responsibilities:

  •  Develop detailed 3D models and production drawings for product designs to be manufactured in-house or by third-party fabrication shops.
  • To oversee the tooling manufacturing and product production process.
  • Create and incorporate all requests for information when discrepancies are found, or additional information is required to complete the processes and follow up as required
  • Recognize, modify, and revise designs to optimize equipment output, minimize operating deficiencies and reduce production errors.
  • Coordinate efforts with Managers, Production Scheduling, Maintenance, and Production Staff.
  • Some in-shop duties will be required to further general knowledge and will assist with design.
  • Assist Managers, Sales, and Production Scheduling with quotations and technical support.
  • Develop new products with input from Managers, Sales, and Clients.
  • Assist with technical support for the fabrication shop.

Qualifications:

  •  2+ years of hands-on experience with 3D cad design applications – experience with SolidWorks or Creo is an asset.
  •  5+ years of experience as a Steel Designer – experience with FEA programs like Tekla, RISA, RAM Elements, STAAD is an asset.
  • Experience in structural and miscellaneous steel construction, fabrication, and the ability to read drawings.
  • Self-motivated and able to complete multiple tasks with minimal guidance.
  • Deadline-driven with an attention to detail.

Requirements:

  1. Completing a Mechanical Engineering Technologist degree or equivalent designation will be viewed favourably.
    a. Combinations of experience and relevant courses will also be considered.
  2.  Three to five years of related experience with building structures in a manufacturing environment is preferred.
  3. Miscellaneous metals experience in drafting, fabrication or installation is an asset.
  4. Proficiency/Knowledge in Tekla, DraftSight, and PDM. Experience with 3D detailing programs is an asset.
  5. Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and SharePoint.
  6. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  7. Exceptional communication and time management, and interpersonal skills.
  8. Strong mathematical skills; a strong, resourceful problem solver.
  9. Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  10. Ability to prioritize, ensuring all timeframes and deadlines are met.
  11. Canadian Citizenship/Legally able to work in Canada.
